Cricket-based dog food supports healthy dog gut microbes

The scientists concluded that crickets-based ingredients may serve as a healthy, novel pet food protein and fiber source.

Crickets may support a health community of microorganism in the intestines of dogs fed kibble made with the chirping insects as a novel protein source. Researchers fed dogs either conventional kibble or one made with varying contents of cricket. The scientists observed that species of beneficial bacteria grew in similar abundance in both groups of dogs’ guts. Read more.
